Austal delivers mainland ferries | South China Morning Post
West Australian shipbuilder Austal Ships has delivered the high-speed passenger catamarans Tai Jian and Nan Hua to Chu Kong Shipping.
The two vessels, due to enter service this month, are Austal's 27th and 28th high-speed passenger catamarans built for Chinese owners.
'The vessel design represents a significant departure from earlier vessels, featuring forward views from the upper passenger deck with the bridge deck raised above,' an Austal official said.
The 40-metre vessels were ordered by Hong Kong-based Yuet Hing Marine Supplies on behalf of Dongguan Humen Lung Wei Passenger Co and Nan Hai Ping Gang Passenger Transport Co.
The catamarans feature a three-deck arrangement with the wheelhouse above both passenger decks.
Tai Jian will operate over almost 100 kilometres between Hong Kong and Tai Ping port, while the Nan Hua will operate from Hong Kong to Ping Zhou, covering just over 190 km.
Both vessels have been surveyed by the China Classification Society.
Austal also is building its 29th vessel for Zhaoqing Hong Kong Transportation Co for delivery in November this year.
